Update: New Year’s Resolutions as a Mom, Trainer, & Blogger

Can you believe we’re already wrapping up April? That means a third of 2025 has flown by! I’ve been thinking about my New Year’s resolutions and wanted to share how things are progressing. Because let’s be honest, the resolution is just the starting point. It’s all about checking in, maybe pivoting if necessary, and just keeping that momentum going! So, here’s a little updates of my 2025 journey so far, and I’m feeling really positive!

Update: new year’s resolution(S) for 2025 as a mom

I will actively seek out sports, science, art, and other enriching camps to provide my boys with diverse learning experiences and opportunities for growth

Okay, can you believe how fast this year is flying by? One of my big New Year’s resolutions as a mom for 2025 was to get my boys doing way more activities outside the house. Sounds simple, right? Well, our biggest hurdle was our super serious commitment to Japanese language school every Saturday, plus all the homework that comes with it.

Honestly, it had me thinking we were totally locked out of any sports. I was picturing weekend games and practices, and with Saturdays already booked solid, it felt like we had to choose: either wave goodbye to sports or ditch Japanese school. And man, that felt like a tough decision!

But then it hit me – sports don’t have to mean those hardcore teams with games every single weekend. My boys could just do some activities that don’t require that kind of weekly commitment. Lightbulb moment!

So, what have we been up to? Well, they did a spring break gym camp, which they loved. We also found this awesome parkour place for after school – get this, you can even register for just a single hour class, even on the same day! Talk about zero commitment! And then there’s track & field, which is a whole other level of fun because… drumroll… I’m actually the head coach!

And guess what? It’s been fantastic! The parkour is super flexible, fitting right into our weekdays. And track & field has been great too – practice twice a week for about a month and a half, and then for the last four weeks, it’s been one competition with other schools and a practice each day.

It’s been so cool seeing them try new things, burn off some energy, and just have fun without the pressure of a huge weekly commitment. This whole “more outside activities” resolution is actually turning out even better than I hoped! Sometimes you just gotta rethink the box, right? Who knew we could juggle Japanese school and still get our sporty on!

I will try to use a SOFTER TONE of voice when talking to my boys.

Okay, so the “softer voice” thing? Honestly, it’s a work in progress, to put it mildly! I’m not sure I’m seeing some huge transformation in my yelling habits just yet. My biggest trigger lately has been the constant fighting between the boys. My youngest has this talent for pushing all his older brother’s buttons – the copying, the not cooperating – and BAM! Instant wrestling match. And in those moments? My calm, gentle mom voice seems to take a permanent vacation. It’s tough, and I definitely haven’t mastered staying quiet or using a softer tone when they’re going at it. I feel like I jump right in with a raised voice just trying to restore order.

Okay, new resolution time. Instead of focusing solely on the tone of my voice in the heat of the moment, maybe I need a “Peacekeeper First, Soft Voice Second” strategy. My initial goal will be to physically separate them or interrupt the escalating behavior before I even open my mouth. Then, after the immediate conflict is diffused, I can try to use a calmer tone when talking to them individually about what happened and how to handle it better next time. Baby steps, right? This whole “mom voice” thing is definitely a marathon, not a sprint!

Let’s see how that “Peacekeeper First, Soft Voice Second” strategy goes and will update the end of August!

Update: new year’s resolution(S) for 2025 as a personal trainer

I will be launching an online training session on my website.

Guess what?! I’m so excited to finally announce that my online training sessions are officially LIVE on my website! It’s been a labor of love getting everything set up, and I’m really proud of how easy the booking page is for anyone wanting to sign up. And the best part? I already have some awesome online clients, which totally makes my day!

But wait, there’s more! On top of the online sessions, I’ve also launched a brand-new service: “Home Delivered Workout Sessions“! That’s right, I’ll be bringing the whole workout experience – all the equipment and a fun, personalized routine based on their goals and fitness level – right to their doorstep here in the Bothell/Kirkland area! It’s still pretty fresh, so I’m figuring out the best way to get the word out, but I’m incredibly excited about this new way to connect with clients. My goal is to always provide the absolute best service in every single session, whether it’s online or in person, and I’ll be sure to share a bigger update on how everything’s going towards the end of August. Stay tuned!

You can read more details about each service here: ONLINE SESSION & HOME DELIVERED WORKOUT SESSION.

Practice mindful eating.

Okay, so in that other blog post about my New Year’s resolution for mindful eating, I mentioned this: “I’ve recently discovered a new approach to mindful eating. I’ve noticed a tendency to overeat when alone, often indulging without much awareness. Now, I’m focusing on savoring all foods, especially when sharing meals with loved ones. This involves truly enjoying each bite and appreciating the social connection. This approach has been incredibly helpful, particularly during the holidays. I’m excited to continue cultivating this mindful way of eating throughout the coming year.”

Okay, so that mindful eating resolution? I’d say it’s going pretty darn well overall! The biggest hurdle I’m still facing is that whole “eating when I’m alone and bored” thing. If I have extra time to myself at home, I definitely have the tendency to just… keep snacking, even when I’m not actually hungry. It’s like I can just mindlessly munch away without even thinking about it.

Now, my solution isn’t to just ditch being home and start eating out all the time with friends. While I love catching up with my people at restaurants, I don’t want that to be the default. Funny enough, when I do go out to eat, I can spend ages trying to decide what I really want – sometimes I realize I don’t even have a strong craving for anything specific! In those moments, it makes so much sense to just pack my own bento box. Maybe I could hit the gym, get a workout in, and then enjoy my healthy lunch. Or even head to the library with my laptop and get some work done – definitely less temptation there than at a cafe with all those delicious-looking treats!

Anyway, I’m actually feeling pretty good about my progress. Remember that “holiday weight” I was carrying around in January? Well, I’ve managed to lose 6 pounds and 3% body fat since then, so I think the mindful eating approach is really working for me. I’m planning to keep this up and will give you another update at the end of August! But, just a little heads-up (and maybe a preemptive excuse for any slight deviations!), I have a trip to Japan planned for July! So… mindful eating might take a little vacation of its own then. We’ll see how it goes!

I have a blog post about How to make Japanese style Bento if you are interested in knowing how I pack my bento! I also have a blog post about our Japan trip from 2023: Best time with my children: Trip to Japan since Japan is today’s popular place to visit!

Update: new year’s resolution(S) for 2025 as a blogger

Increase active user base by 15% each month

Alright, let’s dive into the rollercoaster that’s been my active user growth since the start of the year, with the total active users in January as our baseline of 100%. My goal was a steady 15% increase each month – ha! As you’ll see, it hasn’t exactly been a smooth climb up Mount Fitness Traffic.

  • February: Reality check. We plummeted to 34%, even lower than where we started in January! Cue the internal panic “what went wrong?!” thoughts.
  • March: Ugh, further dip to 71%. At this point, I knew I had to dig deeper. That’s when I reached out to a Pinterest specialist to analyze the trend, since Pinterest is a huge driver of traffic to my site. Their insight was interesting: apparently, general “fitness” searches were way down in SEO. Their theory, which resonated with me, was that the New Year’s resolution rush had faded, and people were maybe taking a break from the fitness hype.
  • April: Continued upward trend, hitting 171% increase since January. Finally feeling like I was back on track!

So, yeah, my website traffic journey has been a wild ride so far, definitely testing my patience! But the big lesson I’ve learned through this is: don’t give up! If you’re putting out good content, people are watching and reading. The key, and what I’m constantly striving for, is to keep that content high quality. Here’s to the ups and downs of online growth!

Publish 1 high-quality blog post per week consistently

Alright, let’s take a look at my blog post consistency goal for 2025: publishing one high-quality blog post every single week. Now that we’re wrapping up April, let’s see how I’ve actually fared, shall we?

Alright, alright, I gotta be real with myself – I definitely missed the mark on that weekly blog post a couple of times. While I feel like I’m being pretty consistent, the truth is, “pretty consistent” isn’t the goal. So, yeah, I need to aim for a deeper level of consistency with this.

You know, I’m the queen of excuses (and let’s be honest, who isn’t?). But I also think excuses aren’t always a bad thing. Life gets crazy! We’re busy, we’re tired, and sometimes prioritizing sleep, health, or quality time with family is the right call. If writing these blogs was coming at the expense of my well-being, that’d be a whole different story. But I genuinely enjoy connecting with you all and building this community. So, the bottom line is, I’m going to keep posting! Thanks for sticking around – more to come!

Alright, overall, I’m feeling pretty good about how things are going with my resolutions. Sure, there are definitely areas where I could push myself a bit more, but honestly? I’m genuinely enjoying the journey and the little wins along the way. It really feels like I’m heading towards a better version of myself! Sometimes it might feel like I’m taking a step back instead of forward, but I’m trying to remember that even those moments can be progress in disguise. If I stumble, that’s just a chance to learn and figure out how to improve. It’s all about moving forward, and that’s what I believe in! So, let’s keep this momentum going, everyone! We’ve got this!
