New Year’s Resolutions as a Mom, Trainer, & Blogger

Can you believe it’s almost the end of 2024!? I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling a bit of holiday burnout right now. But despite the exhaustion, there’s also a sense of excitement for the new year. It’s a time for reflection and setting new intentions. As a mom, personal trainer, and blogger, I’ve gained some unique insights into setting and achieving fitness goals. In this post, I’ll share my own resolutions and hope they inspire you to create your own!

Consider setting one primary goal for the year, along with a few smaller, supporting goals to help you achieve it. I typically set 2-3 resolutions each year. My family has a tradition of writing down our resolutions on December 31st and reviewing them at year’s end. While my kids can write whatever they’d like, it’s always insightful to see their aspirations.

I launched my blog in December 2023 (Happy Anniversary!), and initially, my resolutions primarily focused on my blog. But I’ve realized the importance of setting goals for all aspects of my life. This year, I’ll set specific goals for my roles as a mom, personal trainer, and blogger.

Why do we set new year’s resolution(S)

Increased Motivation & Focus: Setting goals, particularly at the start of a new year, provides a powerful sense of direction and purpose. It fuels our motivation by giving us something to strive for and a clear path to follow. This focused intention can transform our mindset, inspiring positive changes and driving us towards achieving our aspirations

Improved Self-Awareness: I believe that setting resolutions cultivates a profound level of self-reflection. It encourages us to honestly examine our current lifestyle, identify areas for growth, and define our aspirations. As a mom, trainer, and blogger, I find this process invaluable. I regularly analyze my performance in each role, identifying areas of strength and areas where I can improve. This ongoing self-assessment is key to my personal and professional growth.

Sense of Accomplishment: Achieving resolutions, even small ones, fosters personal growth. Each success reinforces self-efficacy, boosting self-esteem and confidence. This creates a positive feedback loop, empowering you to embrace new challenges and strive for continuous improvement in all areas of your life. The feeling of accomplishment itself is incredibly rewarding, motivating you to push harder and challenge yourself further.

Personal Growth: The journey of setting and pursuing goals, regardless of the outcome, is a profound journey of self-discovery. Through striving, adapting, and learning from both successes and setbacks, we grow as individuals. At year’s end, review your goals and accomplishments. Reflect on your progress and use these insights to set new goals for the coming year, for continuous personal growth.

new year’s resolution(S) for 2025 as a mom

  • I will actively seek out sports, science, art, and other enriching camps to provide my boys with diverse learning experiences and opportunities for growth

Right now, our after-school schedule is quite limited, primarily focusing on Japanese language school on Saturdays. The boys’ homework load and the scheduling conflicts with other activities have made it difficult to explore other options. However, as they get older, I feel a strong desire to provide them with more opportunities to grow and develop. I want them to interact with other children, experience new things, and explore their interests beyond academics. Our recent experience with the winter gym camp, where they had a fantastic time and slept soundly afterwards, reinforced my belief that they need more opportunities to burn off energy and engage in physical activity.

We’re excited to explore more options in 2025, and I’ll be sure to share any great finds with you!

  • I will try to use a SOFTER TONE of voice when talking to my boys.

This is a recurring resolution for me: to improve my communication with my boys. It’s a constant challenge! I’ve noticed that they often mimic my language, and I’ve even caught myself using phrases that I don’t want them to use. I know I need to be more mindful of my own words and actions. I’m determined to break the cycle of reacting with raised voices and cultivate a more calm and respectful communication style within our family.

I will try the followings for better conversations with my boys:

Deep Breaths: Before reacting, take a few deep breaths to calm yourself down. This gives you a moment to think before speaking. This is very general speaking but deep breath actually really helps. I decided to take “THREE” deep breaths before saying something to my boys when I am mad.

“Mom” Statements: Instead of saying ‘You always…’, try ‘I feel frustrated when…’ This helps you express your feelings without blaming them. Nobody likes to be blamed, right? People tend to talk back when they are blamed. To prevent this, I will try to use phrases like ‘Mom doesn’t like it when…’ or ‘Mom thinks it’s important to…’.

I’ll keep you updated on my progress!

new year’s resolution(S) for 2025 as a personal trainer

  • I will be launching an online training session on my website.

I recently left my position at a corporate gym after two and a half years. I’m now dedicating more time to growing my website, including increasing the frequency and depth of my fitness blog posts. My biggest project for 2025 is launching online training sessions! I’m very excited about this new venture and will be sure to announce the launch date soon. Stay tuned!

  • Practice mindful eating

While this goal primarily applies to me personally, I’ve included it in my professional goals as a reminder of my own journey. I’ve struggled with overeating for years, despite writing extensively about diet, including articles on “How to start to watch PFC balance: 20-10-35 Rule“, “How to track macronutrients with food tracker apps“, “How to have successful “cheat days”, “3 Questions to ask yourself before eating” and so on This ongoing journey towards healthier eating habits is a constant work in progress, and I hope that by sharing my experiences, I can inspire and support others on their own journeys.

I’ve recently discovered a new approach to mindful eating. I’ve noticed a tendency to overeat when alone, often indulging without much awareness. Now, I’m focusing on savoring all foods, especially when sharing meals with loved ones. This involves truly enjoying each bite and appreciating the social connection. This approach has been incredibly helpful, particularly during the holidays. I’m excited to continue cultivating this mindful way of eating throughout the coming year.

  • Increase active user base by 15% each month

It’s incredible to reflect on the growth of my website this past year. Starting with just a few active users, I’m incredibly grateful for the community that has formed around my content. I’m committed to continuing to share my passion for fitness, diet, and parenting with an even wider audience in 2025.

  • Publish 1 high-quality blog post per week consistently

This goal directly relates to my first objective, which is to increase my blogging consistency. I recognize that consistent content creation is crucial for building a loyal readership and establishing myself as a reliable source of information within my niche. By committing to a more regular publishing schedule in 2025, I aim to better serve both my existing audience and attract new readers. I believe I have a wealth of knowledge and valuable insights to share, and I’m committed to delivering high-quality, engaging content that will resonate with my readers and contribute meaningfully to their fitness journeys

These are my New Year’s resolutions for 2025! I’m feeling incredibly motivated and excited for the year ahead. I believe that sharing these goals publicly will help me stay accountable.
