From Stay-at-Home Mom to Personal Trainer

My days were filled with the joys and demands of motherhood – playdates, school runs, and raising my amazing two boys. While I loved it, I felt a pull towards something that allowed me to grow and express myself in a different way. I craved a sense of purpose beyond my role as a mom, a place where my skills could be valued.

I had this strong feeling I needed to find my ‘thing,’ but I was completely lost. I had a nutrition degree I wasn’t using, I didn’t know what I was good at, and I’m easily bored. My family was my only real passion, which I’m incredibly proud and fortunate to have. However, I wanted something else, something more to add to my identity.

The turning point was when I decided to care for myself. Moms, you know the struggle! I found it impossible to prioritize my health. After having my boys and during the pandemic, I was home, baking, and eating, gaining weight. I hated how I looked and felt, but a voice in my head said I didn’t have time. But I knew I needed something for myself.

A New Path Opens:

It began with tiny steps. A quick workout video when I could, walks with the boys in the neighborhood or at parks. I also joined a fantastic moms’ fitness group at the park, where I met incredible moms. That community was a lifeline, getting me out of the house, connecting with people. It was amazing! And I found myself genuinely enjoying exercise. I felt stronger, more energetic, and just overall happier.

Then, one day, it just clicked. I was reading something about fitness, and I thought, ‘Hey, I actually understand this!’ And then, the little voice in my head got louder. ‘Why not do something with this?’ it whispered. ‘Why not turn this into something more?’

It was a crazy thought! I mean, me? A personal trainer? I’d never even considered it before. But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. I loved learning about fitness, I loved how it made me feel, and I loved the idea of helping other people feel that way too.

It wasn’t an instant decision, of course. I had doubts, I had fears. But that little spark, that little flicker of an idea, it just kept growing. It was like a fire was starting to build inside me, a fire that wouldn’t be ignored. And that, my friends, was how ‘The Spark Ignites’ really felt. Just a tiny idea that grew into something amazing.

Real Stories, Real Workouts

Fast forward to today, and I’m living my dream! I’ve transitioned from stay-at-home mom to a certified personal trainer. It’s been an incredible journey, and I want to share it with you.

First, I had to choose a certification. (If you’re thinking of becoming a trainer, check out my BLOG POST on selecting a certification organization!) I went with NASM, and then the studying began! It was a real shock to the system, honestly. I hadn’t studied like that since college. Finding time was a constant struggle, squeezing in study sessions while the boys were at school or during naps. I’m not kidding, I cried when I passed the exam. It was such a huge personal victory! It felt like the world was telling me, ‘You can do this!’ And I’m so grateful for my husband’s and my boys’ support.

I started my career at a corporate gym, where I learned so much from a fantastic team. They were incredible mentors during my two and a half years there. My next goal was to bring my fitness expertise to a community I deeply cared about: moms (all over the world!) That’s why I launched NAKANAKA MOM FITNESS, offering online sessions to create a supportive fitness community and make wellness accessible to moms everywhere!

My approach is all about real stories and real workouts. I understand the challenges of balancing motherhood with fitness goals. I know what it’s like to have limited time and energy. That’s why I create workouts that are effective, efficient, and adaptable to your busy lifestyle.
